A Legacy of Gardening and Conservation

The Palmetto Garden Club of South Carolina is a historic nonprofit civic organization based in Columbia, South Carolina. Founded in 1935 by 21 civic-minded women and invited to join The Garden Club of America in 1941, the club promotes gardening education, civic improvement, historic garden preservation, and environmental conservation.

The PGC’s notable civic projects include support for the restoration of the historic Hampton-Preston House and Gardens in Columbia, establishment of the Old Rose Garden at the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion, creation of the Caroline Finlay Meyer Garden along the Columbia Riverwalk, and support of the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens and the Gills Creek Watershed Association.

The Palmetto Garden Club also supports community engagement through The Garden Club of America Zone meetings, conservation programs, and the annual Old Rose Show at the South Carolina State Fair.
